Jefferson Grove

the proverbial herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter

Marcel’s frothing at the mouth…

He phones me and asks,
“When’s St Patrick’s day?”
“Two weeks time. Why?”
“My mate runs St Patrick’s tavern in the city. I told him we’d play 4 hours of music”.
“Why would you DO that?”
“There’s a thousand bucks in it. I told them we’re really good and we’re a whole band”.
…”Dude!”

Thus Jefferson Grove were formed in March 2010 in a panic and it gave us some kind of momentum (like the proverbial herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter).

But heaps of stuff happened before that..
The band’s origins are strewn between New Years’ in Stuttgart, kitchens in Napier, dossing in London and a thousand days in Sydney’s ‘burbs and beaches.

‘I write songs I think 7 billion people would want to sing along with, if they were all me.’

Tommy Pickett: “I write songs I think
7 billion people would want to sing
along with, if they were all me.
But I have my stubborn way of doing
things and without Marcel, Goldie,
and Crispie, my songs would be
doomed to a watery fate.
Like the high-pitched guy from
Supertramp. No offence Roger but
without your band you’re just a girl
with a beard.”

We hope our listeners will turn our
record up, throw their porch doors
open and let it drift to the sea.
Because even when it was forming,
under Rhys’ D Webb’s steady
guidance, by those humming pylons
in Cherrybrook, it was always an
ocean thing at heart.
